Why use Expanded Polystyrene?
Polystyrene is an economical and efficient solution to all packaging situations. It protects goods without adding extra weight, especially handy for goods in transit. Loose fill allows various shapes/items to be shipped in the same box, cutting down on costs. It is also recyclable and can, for example, be melted down and used as rigid plastic for CD cases. In landfill it doesn’t break down so it doesn’t give off greenhouse gases and it helps to stabilise the site.
What is polyethylene?
We supply closed-cell, non-cross-linked polyethylene foam packaging. Put simply, this means it absorbs shock, making it more resilient than polystyrene. It is reusable, which is useful if you have more than one factory and you transport products between sites regularly. It is also water resistant and we can provide a (pink) anti-static version, perfect for transporting delicate electronic equipment. All this contributes to a packaging solution offering that little bit extra.
Which material should I use?
That depends on the requirements of your product: its size, weight and fragility. We can advise you on the best packaging solution to meet your needs. Please ring us to discuss.
Can I use polystyrene to insulate my shed?
Certainly. Polystyrene is an exceptional insulator. We can supply fire retardant expanded polystyrene for use in insulating sheds, garages, lofts and even cold rooms and saunas.
My product is fragile. Should I buy more expensive packaging?
Not necessarily. Polyethylene is more expensive than polystyrene but may not be the best packaging for a delicate figurine, for example; more expensive polystyrene would probably be too solid. So it might be that the best solution would be a lower density, less expensive polystyrene that would be more cushioning. If you give us a call, we can advise you on the best solution for you.
