Expanded polystyrene like all plastics has a bad name! Many people believe it to be non-recyclable. However, it is actually 100% recyclable! In fact it is one of the most recycled plastics in the UK.
As expanded polystyrene converters we take our responsibility for recycling as well as education very seriously. We offer our polystyrene recycling services so that we can recycle as much polystyrene as possible and therefore, reduce the need for virgin raw material!

How Does Molygran’s Compacted Polystyrene Fit Into The Recycling Process?
Our aim at Molygran is to help polystyrene and the plastics industry to move forward to a circular economy in the future. There is, however, still a long way to go but progress is being made rapidly.

The process of plastic recycling can be simplified into 6 steps –
| 1) Sort by polymer type | We only work with EPS – therefore this is ‘done’. |
| 2) Wash | We currently only compact clean and dry polystyrene. |
| 3) Compact/ Shred | The EPS is fed through a compactor to reduce its size by between 40-95%. This means we can ship more to recyclers at one time and reduce the environmental impact of transport. |
| 4) Melt | The EPS is melted down to liquid form. |
| 5) Pelletize | This liquid is molded into pellets to be sold as 100% recycled plastic. |
| 6) Made into New Products | New 100% recycled products are made! |

Free of Charge Service
We want your waste polystyrene. We accept any grade of white expanded polystyrene, undecorated, clean, and dry. Our aim is to eliminate any landfill or waste costs that you are incurring as well as reducing environmental impact – making us all a little bit greener! No amount of polystyrene is too big or too small; just arrange with us when you would like to drop it off!
We would need to discuss with you if you have any Grey EPS that is clean & dry for recycling.
Unfortunately, we are unable to accept any takeaway containers, stratocell, or any other foam materials pictured below.
Future Recycling
We currently recycle 100% of our unused polystyrene. However, as a company, it is part of our responsibility to encourage recycling throughout the supply chain. At the moment we are also in the process of working with our local council to improve polystyrene recycling facilities within our area and hopefully throughout Greater Manchester then nationally!
