Welcoming in 2023: Embracing Recycling and Sustainability
As we entered the new year, the familiar sight of recycling requests surging in January greeted us again. It’s a common scene: the ever-growing piles of recyclables waiting in the corner as bins overflow. However, there’s a refreshing shift in the questions we’re receiving. After years of dedicated efforts to educate our communities on the recyclability of Expanded Polystyrene (EPS), we now hear more inquiries about where to recycle EPS rather than if it can be recycled.
Finding Local EPS Recycling Services
While we’re thrilled to assist in recycling EPS, we’re not alone in this mission. There are countless like-minded companies across the country dedicated to providing local recycling solutions. Although we welcome all EPS, sending it over long distances isn’t always economical. To find a recycling service closer to you, we recommend visiting the EPS website, which provides resources to locate nearby companies.
Celebrating Global Recycling Day
March 18th marked Global Recycling Day, and we took the opportunity to spotlight the journey of EPS recycling at Molygran. Our process begins with collecting EPS, which is then transported and transformed into new, usable recycled plastic products. By recycling our own EPS, as well as that from other companies and individuals, we significantly reduce the amount of waste heading to landfills. As expanded polystyrene converters, we are committed to our responsibility for both recycling and education, aiming to change the negative misconceptions about plastics.
This year, we also reflected on the bigger picture: WHY? Why it’s crucial to act now and adjust our daily habits to combat global warming. An insightful infographic by WWF illustrates the potential devastation if we fail to act. It underscores the urgency of making sustainable choices to protect our planet.

We also highlighted the importance of “Closing the Loop” by choosing recycled and recyclable packaging. Choosing recycled content polystyrene packaging is a powerful step in closing the loop. This sustainable choice offers numerous benefits:
- ✅ Environmentally Friendly: Doesn’t produce harmful greenhouse gases during manufacturing.
- ✅ Low Water Consumption: Efficient production processes consume minimal water.
- ✅ Recyclable: Can be produced using 100% recycled material and recycled almost infinitely.
- ✅ Protective: Reliable in safeguarding the products it packages.
- ✅ Eco-Efficient: Lightweight properties help minimize transport costs and fuel emissions.
When you read these attributes, think of Expanded Polystyrene. Contrary to some media narratives, plastic packaging isn’t inherently bad. It’s time to leverage its benefits effectively and to our advantage.
Celebrating World Water Day 💧
As we continued our commitment to sustainability in 2023, we also celebrated World Water Day on March 22nd. This day provided a poignant reminder of the vital role water plays in our ecosystem and the pressing need to protect this precious resource. In keeping with our theme of recycling, we emphasised the critical connection between responsible waste disposal and the health of our water bodies.
The Impact of Improper Waste Disposal
Our waters are alarmingly polluted, with foreign bodies contaminating everything from small ponds and lakes to vast oceans. This pollution isn’t a consequence of the materials themselves—like plastic bottles and EPS packaging—but rather the result of improper disposal by consumers. It’s crucial to question whether the war on plastics is truly fair. Do those plastic bottles and bags walk themselves into the water? Does the EPS packaging put itself there? The answer is clear: the problem lies with us, the consumers.
The Role of Personal Responsibility
The issue isn’t with the materials we use; it’s with how we choose to dispose of them. Here are some stark truths:
- 🫵 You, who chooses not to dispose of these things correctly.
- 🫵 You, who opts to throw waste out the car window.
- 🫵 You, who lets it drop while walking.
The issue is not the plastic itself, but the actions we take—or fail to take. Proper disposal and recycling are pivotal in preventing further environmental damage.
A Call to Action
This World Water Day, we urged everyone to take personal responsibility for their waste. By disposing of items properly and committing to recycling, we can drastically reduce pollution and protect our water resources. Imagine a future where our oceans, rivers, and lakes are free from debris—a future where we have harnessed the benefits of plastics through responsible use and recycling.
Together, we can chart a new course towards a cleaner, sustainable future. It’s time for each of us to make deliberate choices that support the environment, ensuring that we leave our planet better for future generations. Let’s close the loop on waste, embrace recycling, and celebrate the power of informed consumer choices. ♻️
