At Molygran, today, on Global Recycled Day, and every day, we are committed to transforming the way expanded polystyrene (EPS) is perceived and processed. Our journey begins with the collection of EPS waste from various sources—our own production lines, other companies, and even individuals who are eager to contribute to a more sustainable future.
- Collection and Sorting: The first step in our recycling journey is the collection of EPS materials. We have established partnerships with local businesses and community members to ensure a steady supply of EPS waste. Once collected, the EPS is sorted into differing grades ensuring that the recycling process is as efficient and effective as possible.
- Compaction: After sorting, the EPS undergoes compaction. This process reduces the volume of the material by up to 98%, making it much easier and more economical to transport. Compaction is a crucial step in our recycling journey, as it allows us to handle larger quantities of EPS in a more sustainable manner.
- Transportation to Recycling Facilities: Once compacted, the EPS leaves Molygran is transported to specialised recycling facilities. These facilities are equipped with advanced technology that can break down the material into its raw components. By converting EPS into raw plastic pellets, we lay the groundwork for its transformation into new products.
- Reprocessing into New Products: At the recycling facilities, the EPS is reprocessed into usable recycled plastic products. This can include a wide range of items, such as picture frames, construction materials, and even new packaging solutions. By closing the loop, we ensure that EPS waste is not only diverted from landfills but also given a new lease on life.
- Education and Advocacy: Beyond the physical recycling process, Molygran is dedicated to educating the public about the benefits and realities of recycling EPS. We host workshops and collaborate with educational institutions to dispel misconceptions and promote a positive image of plastics. Our goal is to foster a more informed and proactive community that supports sustainable practices.
Through these efforts, Molygran plays a pivotal role in the recycling journey of EPS, turning what was once considered waste into valuable resources. We are proud to be at the forefront of this movement, demonstrating that with the right approach, plastics can be part of the solution rather than the problem.
