Project Overview

Recycled polystyrene has increasingly been in demand as the world continues to strive to save the environment. By manufacturing expanded polystyrene using recycled content not only reduces the need for raw new material, it also reduces the amount of waste going to landfill. Molygran is proud to provide expanded polystyrene which is manufactured using 100% recycled expanded polystyrene as its raw material. EPS 70 and EPS 100 is also available with recycled content.

At Molygran we pride ourselves in being an environmentally conscious and responsible company. In recent years we have seen a huge shift in people looking to improve their environmental footprint and become more sustainable. Whilst the war against plastics continues to develop, we are noticing more companies within our industry beginning to help the re-education around plastics, their benefits and most importantly their environmental benefits. Expanded polystyrene and plastics, in general, have always had a bad reputation.

Since the budget release back in 2018 we have worked hard in ensuring we can provide products to help improve our customers’ sustainability. We’re proud to be able to provide expanded polystyrene with recycled content. Contrary to popular belief, expanded polystyrene is 100% recyclable. We have always recycled our own waste, but over the last few years we have also expanded this to our local community to provide a free recycling service. Whilst we’re proud of the steps we have taken, we are continually looking to better ourselves. With this in mind, we have worked hard to be able to provide our customers with expanded polystyrene material with recycled content in various grades.

Benefits

  • Molygran's recycled polystyrene products significantly reduce the carbon footprint associated with traditional packaging, building and construction materials. By choosing our products, you contribute to environmental conservation and the reduction of waste.
  • Despite their eco-friendly nature, our products remain competitively priced. The use of recycled materials allows us to offer cost-effective solutions without compromising on quality, making sustainable choices accessible for all projects, big or small.
  • We understand that each project comes with its unique challenges and requirements. Molygran provides tailored solutions that meet your specific needs, ensuring that you get exactly what you need for optimal performance and integration into your projects.
  • Our recycled polystyrene products are engineered to deliver the same strength, insulation, and durability as their non-recycled counterparts. This means you can rely on Molygran's products for long-lasting performance, making them a smart investment for any construction or packaging needs.

The brief The brief

When the 2018 budget released the expectations for plastic packaging by 2022, Molygran rose to the challenge. Single-use plastic packaging, by April 2022, must contain at least 30% recycled content. The aim of the policy is “to provide a clear economic incentive for businesses to use recycled plastic in the manufacture of plastic packaging, which will create greater demand for this material. In turn this will stimulate increased levels of recycling and collection of plastic waste, diverting it away from landfill or incineration.” You can read more about this on the government site; https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/introduction-of-plastic-packaging-tax-from-april-2022/introduction-of-plastic-packaging-tax-2021.

The solution The solution

At Molygran, we are committed to innovation and sustainability, offering a diverse range of products that align with our environmentally responsible ethos. Our product range is designed to meet the needs of various industries while maintaining a focus on reducing environmental impact. Our regrind block is manufactured using 100% recycled polystyrene as its raw material. These blocks offer the same strength, durability, and thermal insulation as traditional polystyrene, making them an excellent choice for building and construction projects. Whether it’s for insulation, packaging, or custom applications, our recycled polystyrene blocks are versatile and eco-friendly. We understand the importance of offering products that cater to different specifications and requirements. Our EPS 70 and EPS 100 grades, available with recycled content, provide high-performance solutions for a variety of applications. EPS 70 is ideal for lightweight applications and thermal insulation, while EPS 100 offers enhanced compressive strength for more demanding uses.
