The Introduction of 30% & 100% Recycled Packaging
The Budget release of 2018 revealed the government would soon be introducing a world-leading new tax on produced or imported plastic packaging. This tax will be applied to all plastic packaging that doesn’t include at least 30% recycled content. This includes expanded polystyrene packaging.
2.26 millions tonnes of plastic packaging are used in the UK every year. The vast majority of which are made from new or virgin plastic, rather than re-using what we already have. Introducing the new tax on these forms of packaging will not only make it less appealing for companies to produce, but it will also help decrease the amount of waste going to landfill as the rise in 30% minimum content packaging begins.
Molygran’s Environmental Promise.
Here at Molygran we have always taken our responsibility extremely seriously within our industry. Over the past few years we have taken many steps to improve our sustainability as a company, including implementing lean manufacturing and purchasing a compacting machine to ensure there is no waste. Our aim for 2019 is a further 50% in waste through trialling new methods and improving our CNC machiner and CAD capabilities. Through this we aim to reduce defects, off-cuts and over-production, all, therefore, reducing in less waste. You can read more about our Environmental Promises here.
Molygran’s Recycled Polystyrene Packaging
After the recent release we have spent a considerable amount of time working closely with our suppliers to ensure we will be able to provide our customers with packaging that will meet the new guidelines set by the government. Whilst the minimum recycled content is just 30%, we are aiming to have both 30% and 50% recycled content polystyrene packaging available.
